There are lots of ways in which members of the public can get involved in policing, from helping the authority to set policing priorities to becoming a volunteer.
A police authority has a statutory duty to consult with members of the public and take their views into account when setting the local policing priorities and the policing budget. This engagement is done in many different ways: from attending neighbourhood panel meetings, community events and sitting on partnership groups to hosting online consultation exercises and handing out more traditional paper-based surveys.
The authority values the opinions of people who live and work in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and wants more people to get involved with policing.
Details of the consultation meetings being held are available on the Public Meeting page. Members of the public are also welcome to attend all the committee meetings held by the authority. The dates of these meetings are listed on the main Meetings page.
The authority is always looking for people to volunteer for the Independent Custody Visitors' Scheme.
There are also many opportunities to volunteer for the constabulary: for example by joining the Cambridgeshire Special Constabulary http://www.cambs-police.co.uk/recruitment/specials/ joining the StreetWatch scheme in Peterborough or a Speedwatch scheme in your local area. Contact your local officer for more details of each of these schemes.
